Another Incredible Deal

A couple of days ago I posted that I had an item from my TPT shop featured as a freebie on Educents. Well, today I have a math bundle that is being featured on Educents. Two items from my shop, Common Core For The Whole Year and 2nd Grade Common Core Math Assessments, are being offered in a bundle for only $15.00. These items are usually $18.75 and $8.00 so you are getting 44% off (saving of $11.75).  Click {HERE} or on the link below the picture to be taken to this bundle.

Moving to a random thought, I have to get something off my chest and see how other teachers feel about this or what your policy is. I have a student with lice and our new county policy is that they are still allowed to come to school. We are just supposed to keep them separated. Does this make sense to anyone else because I am freaking out just a bit. First off, how embarrassing for that child!! Second, I don't want to get it or have other students get it. If I were a parent with a child in school I would be furious. Thoughts??

So back to the Educents bundle. I wanted to offer you a sample of what you would be getting if you purchase this deal. Below, I have included links to two freebies. One is from Common Core Math for the Year. It contains two games from that packet that cover greater than less than and skip counting. The other is a sample or two from each section of my Math Assessments pack. Click on the picture to get each one. Hope you enjoy!

Yo Ho, Yo Ho, It's A Place Value Life For Me

I posted yesterday with a sneak peek of my upcoming product. Well somehow I finished it ahead of schedule and it is hot of the press in my TPT shop. It's a place value pack that is all about some differentiating.

So, I have to tell you about my favorite thing included in the pack. It's called Find Your Mate. The students make pirate hats (since this pack is pirate themed). You give them a number and one of the following cards: base ten blocks, number form, expanded form, or word form. They have to write their number on the front of their hat in the form you gave them. I had mine do it on scrap paper first before they wrote on their hat so I could check.

They then have to silently walk around and find the rest of their group that has the same number as them just in the other forms. Their group will have 4 members when they finish.

I had mine use a thumbs up/down to let the other students know if they thought they belonged together or not.

I told them to lock arms when they found a match so they wouldn't lose each other.

Then they had to wait with their group for everyone to finish.

There are cards in the packet for this part but I forgot to print them. Oops. So we just used thumbs up/down again. The other groups check to make sure each group is right.

After all groups were found they then wrote the other ways to represent their number on their hat. My kids L-O-V-E-D this activity.

Here are some of the other things in the packet.
An accordion book to show expanded and standard form.

Cards that can be used as a concentration type game or go fish.

A board game to practice expanded and word form.

There are other activities too that cover greater than less than and skip counting. I also threw in 6 place value mini posters. Click on the picture to be taken to the item in my shop.

I am wanting to offer something special to anyone that purchases this packet any time from today through Sunday (October 27th). If you do, send me your TPT user name (comment below or email me at secondgradeperks@gmail.com) and I will send you any item from my TPT shop that is $5 or less. Just tell me the name of the product you want and your email address.

In other news, I mentioned a few weeks ago that we had recently moved and I just have to leave you with some pics of my new place. I had a girl's night with the girls from my small group at Church and they said they felt like they were walking through Pinterest. Which is ironic since I decorated my house with millions of ideas I found on Pinterest. Ha!!

IN LOVE with my chevron kitchen. (I made the curtains for all of my windows)

My DIY crate coffee table with my cutie patootie dog, Tucker posing on the couch.

My hubby made the baby gate. Sad thing is there is not one at the top of the steps so it kinda defeats the purpose. He made this one and then for some reason moved on to other things. Hmmm that reminds me I need to remind him about this little half-finished project of his.

And last but not least, my favorite part of the house with my, yep you guesses it, DIY burlap wreath. I was thrilled with the way this came together.

 Happy Monday!

Best Book Ever To Teach Fluency {Plus a couple of FREEBIES!}

On Friday our instructional coach came to my class to talk to my students about what it means to be a fluent reader. She brought this book to read and after the first page I was sold. I had never heard of it before but it is called "Wolf" by Becky Bloom.

It is about a wolf that goes to a farm and sees all of the animals reading. He then decides to learn to read but first he reads way too slow. Next, he reads way too fast. The last time he reads it is the perfect speed and all of the animals want him to keep reading. SO CUTE!! The kids just got it after hearing the book. They knew exactly what was meant by fluent reader. Just had to share that with you.

I also want to share some freebies. We learned about subject and predicate a couple of weeks ago and I made these mini posters. Click on the picture to grab yours.

I have one more freebie for you today. My school has gotten into accountable talk and has pushed us to use it. I created these posters and stuck them on my wall (mostly to help me remember to use them). It has been amazing seeing the kids use these posters. When they answer my questions I hear things like I agree with so and so because...... Yes, you read right. They tell me why without me even asking. I love it. I also made some bookmarks that we use during small groups. If you will follow me on Bloglovin by clicking on the picture below and like me on facebook by clicking {HERE} you can download the set of posters and bookmarks for free from my fan freebies link on my facebook page.

Here is what they look like:

I just want to leave you with a sneak peek at what I am working on and should be finished with very soon. It is a place value mini unit. The first thing in the pack is an awesome place value pirate hat activity that gets the kids up and moving while working on different ways to represent a number. I'm trying it out for the first time with my class tomorrow and am pretty excited. I'll leave you with an image just to wet your appetite : )

Happy Sunday!
